Restaurant Jobs Are Up Once More

Those looking for work in the restaurant industry have faced a tough job market this year, as the industry added a disappointing number of positions in the first half. However, things have turned around.

According to new data from the Department of Labor, and National Restaurant Association Chief Economist Bruce Grindy, restaurant industry job growth accelerated in June.

Restaurants and bars added a net 29,900 jobs in June on a seasonally-adjusted basis, making it the strongest month for job gains since February.

June’s numbers puts the year-to-date job growth rate in the restaurant industry at 3.7%. If this holds through the year, it would make 2015 the fourth consecutive year with industry-wide job growth of at least 3.5%.

Grindy points out that – with growth at that level — this would also be 16th consecutive year in which restaurant industry job growth outpaced the overall economy.
