It’s National Pet Month
May is National Pet Month in the U.S.A., and we thought we’d share a couple of recent developments in the lives of pets, (and their two-legged companions) to mark the start of the month.
Lick With Care
Canada is rolling out a new stamp series called Love Your Pet: Responsible Pet Ownership to remind pet owners of the importance of spaying or neutering, regular visits to the veterinarian, proper nutrition, creating comfortable surroundings, and plenty of play, exercise and attention.
As you can see from the pictures, these stamp designs are true to their cause – even if they are a little strange.
These stamps can only be used to mail things in Canada, but U.S. stamp collectors might be interested in buying a set. After all, where else would you find a stamp depicting a cat with one of those plastic cone things on its head?
The stamps can be bought at canadapost.ca/shop.
Pet Ownership – The App
A new app that aims to help people keep track of their pets’ medical records has launched.
The developer of the app, VitusVet, has created a software platform designed to work with veterinary practices’ existing software systems. It stores a pet’s complete medical record online, where it’s accessible 24/7/365.
Their new app is aimed to give consumers a similar capability by allowing them to access their pet’s medical records using any mobile device.
VitusVet said that the app could save pet owners hundreds of dollars each year by consolidating medical information (i.e. labwork, X-Rays, vaccine dates, prescriptions, etc.) from all pet caretakers, thus avoiding the repeat testing that plagues ‘offline’ veterinary medicine.

National Pet Month can be celebrated in weird and wonderful ways – and we’re dedicated to bringing you a little bit of both.
