Credit Unions Win on Trust

Credit unions are the most trusted companies – as a group — in the U.S., according to a recent report from customer research provider the Temkin Group.

Each year, Temkin polls consumers across the country, to gauge their level of trust in various types of business. For another year in 2015, credit unions came out on the top of the heap.

U.S. credit unions received a “trust rating” of 80% to earn this distinction, versus just 60% for the banking category overall. Only grocery chain H-E-B was able to match the trust rating earned by credit unions.

Temkin said that just 6% of firms earned “excellent” ratings of more than 70%, and only 28% earned “good” ratings, of 60% – 70%.

Some of the worst performers were TV service providers (32%) and Internet service providers (34%).

This year marks the fifth year of publication for Temkin Trust Ratings, which examine trust across 20 industries. Credit unions consistently rank at, or near, the top in terms of trust.
