The Best Family Cars Are…

Kelley Blue Book has made its picks for the Best Family Cars of 2016.

Appropriately, the company picked 16 vehicles. KBB also took into account that not all families are alike, so there’s no single greatest family car.

So, the list contains three minivans, six sedans, three two-row crossover/SUVs and four three-row SUVs. This should cover a wide range of family needs.

Sedan:

Honda Civic: This perennial favorite was KBB’s pick for Overall Best Buy of 2016. It’s been redesigned, and offers a long list of standard features.

Honda Accord: Big brother to the Civic, the Honda According is roomy, solid and offers a dash of style with its famous practicality.

Kia Optima: This South Korean automaker has done a great job of offering upscale design and quality at a reasonable price. This helped make the Optima KBB’s pick for Midsize Best Buy of 2016.

Chevrolet Malibu: Another car that’s been redesigned, the Malibu offers added safety and efficiency, and a nicer interior.

Chevrolet Impala: KBB notes the Impala’s roomy cabin and trunk, contemporary looks, drivetrain choices and sophisticated technology.

Hyundai Sonata: This car offers a class-leading warranty and a relatively low price. However, it also offers a measure of refinement that belies its value.

Two-Row, Crossover/SUV

Honda HR-V: Check out this new offering from Honda. KBB said that its second row is “surprisingly roomy,” and declared the HR-V a great choice for a small family in the city.

Honda CR-V: This longtime favorite is one of the roomiest small SUVs around, KBB said. Also, owners are pleased with its strong resale value.

Subaru Outback: Subaru is known for its outstanding AWD, which pleases families who drive in snow country. The Outback also offers outstanding roominess in this category for both passengers and cargo.

Minivan

Kia Sedona: KBB said that the Sedona has a less bulky feel than other minivans, yet still offers impressive safety features and a modern interior.

Honda Odyssey: This model gets high praise for its, “unparalleled combination of flexibility, seating, on-road dynamics and features.” KBB also notes that Wide Mode allows it to fit three car seats across the second row.

Toyota Sienna: The Sienna is the only minivan to offer AWD as an option. Sienna is also the IIHS Top Safety pick for the category. Impressive.

Three-Row Crossover/SUV

Nissan Pathfinder: This model has an available all-around view monitor, and offers an easy system for attaching child seats. KBB calls it, “pitch-perfect on the road.”

Toyota Highlander: You’ll find that the Highlander is a solid all-around choice with the greatest range of powertrain choices.

Honda Pilot: KBB calls the redesigned Pilot, “the family-friendliest midsize SUV in existence.” That’s definitive, so don’t forget to check this model out.

Chevrolet Tahoe: A truck-based SUV with the plusses and minuses that offers. If you’re into off-roading, you’ll really like the plusses. It can carry up to nine people plus gear.
