Jobs with Good Bennies

How is your benefits package at work? Do you feel that many other people are getting a better one? We have some stats that may give you a better idea.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the participation rate for employer-sponsored medical care benefits for civilian workers was 52 percent in March 2016.

The participation rate was 49 percent for private industry workers and a whopping 73 percent for state and local government workers.

That’s a shocking difference – but of course the prospect of getting good benefits has long drawn people to government jobs.

When it comes to employer-sponsored retirement benefits — which include defined benefit and defined contribution plans – the participation rate was 54 percent for civilian workers.

Overall, the participation rate was 49 percent for private industry workers and 81 percent for state and local government workers.

Again, look at that spread.

Bottom line: when it comes to bennies, you could do worse than to get a good job in government.
