Here Are The 10 Best 40+ MPG Cars

Saving on gas is always a nice thing – so long as you don’t have to suffer too much to do it. Fortunately, today’s crop of economy cars offer big green savings with few compromises.

Recently, Kelley Blue Book named their picks for the top 10 40+ MPG Cars of 2016.

There are some relatively exotic picks, including all-electric cars, hybrids and even a new-for-2016 hydrogen-powered model. However, there are also some proven favorites.

2016 Toyota Prius – KBB points out that the Prius “made the idea of a mainstream hybrid realistic.” This 2016 model of this perennial favorite is more fun to drive and it offers better fuel efficiency.
2016 Chevrolet Volt – The original Volt couldn’t touch the Prius in sales, but it was a very impressive car, offering superior performance and great comfort. Now we have the second-generation Volt, and KBB says it is “more efficient, more practical and just plain more appealing than its predecessor.”
2016 Tesla Model S AWD – 70D – “Awesome” is not a word we would have used to describe an EV – until Teslas started showing up. The Model S lives up to the Tesla brand with its impressive 17-inch touchscreen and “jaw-dropping acceleration.” KBB said it offers “everyday practicality and unmatched battery range.”
2016 BMW i3 – This urban electric car offers good (81 mile) range from its batteries, and an optional generator can extend that to 160.
2016 Volkswagen e-Golf – This electric Golf doesn’t skimp on “sharp handling and engaging European driving feel,” KBB says, liking its “unique mix of efficiency, affordability and fun.”
2016 Kia Soul Electric – The electric version of the popular Soul goes a full 93 miles on a charge.
2016 BMW i8 – Have your cake and eat it, too: 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, or zero emissions on pure electric power.
2016 Toyota Mirai – This car will make you wish there were more hydrogen filling stations. It offers the convenience of conventional power with the planet-friendly-ness of an electric.
2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid – If the Prius is too small for you, try the Camry hybrid. It offers 41-mpg, in a family sized offering. Best of all, it costs less than $30,000.
2016 Ford Focus Electric – Just like the regular Focus, but powered by E. It offers 76 mile electric range, and KBB said it “is simply more fun to drive than most of its competitors.”
