Which type of furry companion would you rather have sitting next to you on a plane, train or bus: a dog or a cat?

Hotels.com asked Canadian travelers which they would prefer, and dogs won by a hair. Reasons given include concerns over smells, allergies, noise and fear, the firm said.

When asked about their idea of an ideal travel companion, survey respondents picked their pets over celebrities.

Among the choices, their spouse or partner was the top pick for ideal travel mate (74.1%), followed by their pet at (13.9%), a world-renowned tour guide (5.8%) and a celebrity (5.4%). Politicians – always questionable as seat-mates, garnered a mere 0.8%.

Yes, less than 1% of travelers picked a politician as their ideal travel companion. Imagine that?
