Does Daylight Saving Time Have You Down? Try this.
America lost an hour of sleep over the weekend, and many of us are yawning through the week as a result. While most experts say that we simply need to adjust to the new time-frame, the folks at the Cherry Marketing Institute are offering some tasty advice for getting better sleep.
According to the institute, tart cherry juice made from Montmorency cherries can be effective as an all-natural sleep aid. They offer the following claims:
“UK researchers found that young healthy adults who drank two glasses of tart cherry juice each day for a week slept about 40 minutes longer on average and had up to a 6% increase in sleep efficiency.
A study conducted at the University of Rochester Medical Center found that drinking two 8-ounce servings of tart cherry juice daily for two weeks helped reduce the severity of insomnia and time spent awake after going to sleep among older adults with insomnia.
Researchers at Louisiana State University found that drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks helped increase sleep time by nearly 90 minutes among older adults with insomnia.”
Let’s keep in mind that the Cherry Marketing Institute is a trade group whose purpose in life is to sell cherries. With that said, it certainly couldn’t hurt to try some of this cherry juice, and see if it helps us get a good night’s sleep. Just make sure you’re not allergic to cherries, first.
