Detroit-Area Credit Union Honored for Creating “Exceptional Work Environment”
The 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For competition has honored Michigan-based Community Financial Credit Union, for the eighth year running.
Community Financial CU has over 40,000 members, $426 million in assets and serves 23 counties in the state. It started in 1951 as the Daisy Employees Federal Credit Union to serve the employees of Plymouth, Michigan’s largest employer, Daisy Air Rifle Company. Once Daisy moved away, the CU applied for a state charter and assumed its current name, with a goal of serving a larger community. They’ve clearly had a lot of success with that.
Kathleen Hinchcliff, Community Financial’s education and development manager, said that The 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For award was based in large part on data collected from Community Financial team members.
The 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For is a program that provides yearlong education, benchmarking, assessment tools and interaction. Organizers say that companies participate to gain recognition and showcase their best practices.
Awards are based on detailed questionnaires completed by nominated companies and their employees. Companies provide information about work place communication, work-life balance, employee education, diversity, employee recognition, retention, and other elements of the work environment.
In a statement, program organizers said that the 2013 award competition included 1,000 nominations and more than 400 applications. All companies that participate receive reports that compare their human resources practices with an aggregate of other companies’ data.
