Call Your Vacuum Cleaner Soon, It Might Be Getting Lonely

Imagine a world where you could call your vacuum cleaner from anywhere in the world, and tell it to make another pass around your coffee table at home. Believe it or not, you’re already living in this amazing future.

Yes, you will soon be able to call your vacuum cleaner using a Snartphone app, and issue instructions about which areas of your house need extra cleaning.

Appliance maker LG Electronics is making this possible with its new CordZero line, which is being rolled out at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

The CordZero line includes the HOM-BOT Turbo+, which LG calls the industry’s first robotic vacuum cleaner equipped with augmented reality technology.

A smart feature called Home-Joy allows HOM-BOT Turbo+ to communicate with the machine using a Smartphone.

Owners can use the interface to tell the machine to pay special attention to certain parts of the house by tapping on a room image on their device screen. The little robot vacuum will then dutifully head for that area, and give it a few extra passes.

This isn’t exactly life-changing technology, but it will impress your co-workers. It also heralds the day when the Internet of Everything really does involve everything.
